I tried it but got rid of it. Had to many problems with strange re-encoding of ampersands with accents (é to ´ then to ´ ruining all my posts).

Or I’m missing something?

What was the problem with Safari and comments? (I don’t own a Mac so I can’t test it myself )

I just tested with a ä and that worked just great. Maybe it was a problem in a earlier version?
