Yet another SVG viewer has surfaced, LXViewer. It’s free but paying $20 will unlock additional features. It’s ActiveX based like ASV and CSV, I wonder if it can compete? We’ll see.
My article on the basics of GDI+ is now also published on MSDNAA (MSDN for academics). I’m very happy that they liked it and wanted to republish it :-)
Ken Levy from Microsoft apperently showed a prototype SVG viewer during XMLDevCon. After some misunderstandings it now seems like MS is not going to release this viewer, but at least we now their interested in SVG. Now, how can we get them to support SVG#? :-)
SVG Open is going on as we speak. Some of the visitors are blogging the event. Will we see even more announcements during the conference?
Batik 1.5 is finally ready. Batik now comes with full scripting support and continues to be the best viewer around. But development to finalize it and support animation seems to have halted due to lack of time. That’s really too bad, I hope more developers will step in and we’ll see a Batik 2.0 in the not to far future.
Adobe has announced a technical preview of their upcoming SVG viewer, called ASV6. Lots of new things including support for almost all of SVG 1.2. It’s very exciting to see Adobe back in the game.
I’ve been playing some with the viewer that shipped with the new Adobe reader so I’ve tried some of the new stuff, but now when it’s official I’ll try out as much as I can. Expect to see more on this soon.
Any public Yahoo Group is available as an RSS feed. Pretty neat.

I’ve set up a (n)echo feed for protocol7. My MT template is based on Mark Pilgrim’s template with a few changes:
- Uses XHTML instead of HTML for the content
- Put a prefix on the (n)echo elements to make it easy to insert the XHTML
I’ll keep the template updated as (n)echo evolves. The MT template is free to use if you like it.
I also added an image that links to it. It’s a slightly modified version of Nick Wetegrove’s image from the (n)echo wiki.

Sun has published a summary of the roadmap for J2SE 1.4.2 and 1.5. Nothing really new but still a nice summary of what to expect in the coming year.

On Echo:
“But I am astonished by the debate over escaped HTML. Most of the phrases that spring immediately to mind when I consider this debate are unprintable. At least, I’m not going to print them. Not in public. Here’s a sanitized summary: ‘are you freaking nuts?’”

I agree with everything he says. We now have XML, why do we want to build tagsoup support into brand new specs. XHTML is an excellent format and there is absolutely brilliant applications for automatically converting your legacy content to wellformed and valid XHTML. Can we please move on.
