“First things first: SAP does not encourage or support using the SAP
JVM in any way not provided by SAP. In most cases this will be a show stopper
for using it in productive environments.” - straight from a SAP blog

Now, that’s funny :-)

The XML Query WG has announced what they belive is the completed release of the test suite for XQuery. All in all, it contains a whopping 14500 test cases. That’s what the WG think is necessary to fully test the complete specification, all 239 pages of it. I think it will be a crucial tool for ensuring combability between different XQuery implementations and might make XQuery skip the long period of incompability that most other specifications has to endure. I just wish that the SVG WG would make the same prioritizes, instead of trying to release yet another bloated spec long before the previous is even close to being proven and successful.

And, if 14500 test cases are required for XQuery compability, how many will be needed for WS-*?

Reactions on AMQP

Quite an interesting discussion over at InfoQ. John O’Hara, the inventor of the protocol has pointed to an upcoming site for discussions around the spec as well as hinted to a future donation of the spec to a standards organization. There’s also some discussion on the merits of Stomp compared to AMQP and the value of messaging providers to support AMQP.

Sean McGrath, like me, think that an open standard for messaging is much needed and is amazed that it has taken so long.

Mike Herrick is excited as well, arguing that AMQP might be important for large scale EDA implementations.

Anne Thomas Manes thinks AMQP can be useful with WS-RX and seems generally happy about the proposal. She, like almost everyone, questions if IBM and Tibco will follow along.

William Vambenepe discusses the possible overlap between WS-* and AMQP, especially when it comes to WS-Eventing (WS-Topics).

Pulse getting closer

A few weeks ago I blogged about the newest build server in town, Pulse. All in all it looked very promising for matching our requirements for work. Two major things was missing, dependent builds and LDAP authentication. Now both seems to be implemented, I just have to wait for 1.1 being released :-)

Albin does Tuscany

So, our trip to Tuscany went almost as planned. The flight to Rome was very easy with Albin (our 6 month boy) sleeping all the way. While at it, he pretty much sleept all the way on our three hour ride to Sienna.

We then spent a couple of days in Sienna before moving our lazy asses some 10 km north to a small (5 buildings) village with beatiful view over the valley below. Now, with every day, Albin was getting more and more grumpy and on our trip to Florence, he pretty much spent the whole day yelling at us. So, we cut the trip a few days short and went back home on Sunday.

But, even with the shorter trip, the experience was very good. Excellent wine and food (one evening we had the best pasta I’ve ever had) as would be expected and stunning landscapes and historic villages whereever you turned. I sure would expect us to go back within a few years, there’s more pasta to be eaten :-)
